Jacaranda

Size:

Height: 25-50'; Spread: 20-50’

Character:

Semi-deciduous; irregular form; light canopy.

Foliage:

Light green, fernlike, 10-12" long compound leaves with small oval leaflets. In fall as well as during times of drought, some foliage yellows and drops; new foliage may appear quickly or branches may remain bare until bloom. 

Flower:

Lavender flower clusters 6-8" long, bloom April-July. 

Fruit:

Flat, round, brown seed pods 1-2" long develop in fall, eventually drop. 

Bark:

Smooth grat-brown bark. 

Tree Care:

Moderate. Early pruning needed to establish and maintain central leader. Requires removal of suckers. Sidewalk clean-up of flower and fruit drop. 

Watering Needs:

Special Considerations:

Does not tolerate strong winds or poor drainage. Can get aphids and sooty mold. Prefers larger grow space and does not tolerate root pruning well.

Native Range & Notable Traits:

Native to Brazil. Brilliant floral displays are attractive and attract birds and bees.
