Gray-green, smooth, narrow leaves, 2-3" long.

Insignificant flowers.
Fruit:
Fruitless varieties recommended for street trees. Fruit is a dark drupe that is edible if prepared properly.
Bark:
Smooth, light gray bark becomes gnarled as tree matures.
Tree Care:
Low. Early pruning needed to establish and maintain a central leader, and to develop good branch structure; pruning needed less frequently with age.
Watering Needs:
Special Considerations:
Prefers sun. Can irritate allergies. Some "fruitless" varieties bear a little fruit. Prefers good drainage.
Native Range & Notable Traits:
Native to the Mediterranean. A well-adapted tree to California climate with interesting structure and good shade.
