About the event
Friends of the Urban Forest invites you to a one-of-kind walking tour in the Presidio led by arborist John Leffingwell of Woodreeve Consulting and Dr. Joe McBride, Professor Emeritus of Landscape Architecture & Environmental Planning at UC Berkeley.
Travel through time and see the history and development of the Presidio forest from pre-colonial times to modern-day plantings. See examples of the Army's afforestation efforts, the Presidio Trust's reforestation, current restoration efforts at Tennessee Hollow, and the future Presidio forest at the recently-opened Presidio Tunnel Tops park.
John and Dr. McBride will discuss tree species, diversity, and changes over time; the functions of trees at the Presidio; and the role of volunteers in planting and maintaining trees. This is a unique opportunity to learn about the trees of San Francisco from two, not one, experts in the field!
We'll cover roughly a mile on the mostly flat ground surrounding the Main…
