About the event

At Friends of the Urban Forest, our volunteers are the star of our plantings! Thanks to our volunteers, we're making a big impact on how green, sustainable, and livable San Francisco is.

Now take the next step with us - become a Planting Leader!

Planting Leaders are the backbone of our plantings -- they're volunteers who have taken their contribution to the next level by leading volunteer groups during our Community Plantings. They are an essential part of the work we do. As Friends of the Urban Forest expands our work and sets ambitious goals for the future, we are seeking to grow our team of dedicated Planting Leaders.

Benefits of becoming a Planting Leader:

  • Learn from our amazing team of ISA certified arborists, including skills and knowledge about tree species, the urban forest ecosystem, local soil and geology, and more
  • Gain new skills and knowledge to successfully lead urban tree plantings
  • Become part of a close community of passionate urban forest stewards
  • Receive broad recognition for your work, a special hoodie and other swag that only Planting Leaders receive
  • Get a free tote bag (with our unique Trees of San Francisco design) just for attending

No prior experience is necessary. Once you’ve attended the training, you’ll be ready to lead small groups of volunteers on our Community Planting days.
