Guided Walk — Native Trees of Golden Gate Park

San Francisco's native tree species haven't historically been planted as street trees, but nevertheless, many can be found throughout the public realm if you consult the San Francisco Street Tree Map. On this tour, we'll visit specimens and groves of native trees in and around the east end of Golden Park, so we can begin to understand how these locals do live here.

Friends of the Urban Forest invites you to join a rare weekday evening tree tour, on one of the longer days of the year, just a couple of weeks before the summer solstice (the sun will set at 8:29pm). We'll be led by Peter Brastow, the Senior Biodiversity Specialist and Yerba Buena Island Restoration Ecologist for the San Francisco Environment Department. He's also the founder of Nature in the City, a nonprofit organization that builds, strengthens, and unifies the movement to conserve San Francisco's natural areas and restore biological diversity.

We'll meet on the west side of Stanyan Street (map) directly across from the end of Haight Street. Please give yourself extra time and arrive at least 5 minutes early, as we're aiming to start promptly at 6 p.m.

Note that our Tree Tours happen rain or shine, and tickets cannot be exchanged or refunded. We recommend you wear comfortable shoes and bring water (to stay hydrated).
